How it started ➡️ How it’s going A couple of months ago, Marine Programs Director, Michael, came across this garbage patch in Wilmington. When he returned this past weekend, it was a sight for sore eyes! Thank you to the good folks over at the Chowder Barge and Leeward Marina for their efforts in cleaning the patch up! This trash flows down the Dominguez Channel and into the San Pedro Bay. It is another reminder of why we need strong stormwater permits and better infrastructure to address the runoff pollution in our County and protect our waterways.

#DroughtTalks: ”Extreme weather events impact socioeconomically disadvantaged communities harder than wealthier ones, and California's ongoing drought is no exception." Drought isn't felt equally in California. And unfortunately, where there are water QUANTITY issues, water QUALITY issues follow. Over-pumping of deep, commercial groundwater wells not only leaves groundwater-dependent residents' wells dry but causes levels of dangerous chemicals to rise. The risk of arsenic in drinking CA water TRIPLES when groundwater pumping increases.
