Pillar:
Los Angeles’ built environment is dominated by impervious surfaces like concrete and asphalt, which create serious problems for our communities. These surfaces trap heat, worsen neighborhood heat islands, and send polluted runoff into our rivers, lakes, and ocean.
We fight for a greener, healthier Los Angeles, one with more trees, parks, green spaces, and nature-based solutions that capture stormwater, reduce pollution, and improve public health. These projects are also a smart investment, addressing flooding, heat, pollution, and lack of green space altogether, instead of treating each problem separately. The result is healthier communities, stronger climate resilience, and public dollars spent where they can do the most good.

Infrastructure Justice LA
Infrastructure Justice for LA is a coalition led by LA Waterkeeper that brings together community organizations, advocates, and technical experts to rethink how infrastructure gets planned and delivered across Los Angeles.

We push for a different vision of the LA River, one that works with nature, not against it. That means restoring habitat, improving water quality, and using natural systems to reduce flood risk while cooling neighborhoods and capturing stormwater for local water supply, and restoring the river's role as a living system.

By replacing asphalt with trees, gardens, and other nature-based solutions, we can create cooler, healthier campuses that support student well-being, capture and clean stormwater, and strengthen our region’s climate resilience.
