INSPIRING PUBLIC AWARENESS AND ACTION

Pillar:

Lasting water protections start with informed and engaged communities. Through volunteer programs like Creeks to Coast Cleanups, River Assessment Field Team, and MPA Watch, we connect Angelenos to the waterways and coastal ecosystems in their own backyards.

These experiences give people the knowledge, tools, and confidence to help defend their right to clean water. They also support healthier communities by encouraging time outdoors, strengthening local connections, and inspiring long-term stewardship of Los Angeles’ water future.

KEY CAMPAIGNS:

Cleanups

LA Waterkeeper’s Creeks to Coast Cleanups bring hundreds of volunteers together each year to remove trash from neighborhoods, rivers, and beaches.

RAFT

Through RAFT, volunteers work alongside our team to explore the river and collect water quality data, helping build a clearer picture of conditions across the watershed. This work makes scientific information more accessible and gives community members the tools to understand and advocate for a healthier river.

MPA Watch

LA Waterkeeper’s MPA Watch program engages volunteers in coastal monitoring while expanding ocean access for historically underserved communities.

In partnership with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, we also support outreach to fishers and report potential violations to help protect vital marine ecosystems.
