OUR WORK

Our Water, Our Future

Water shapes life across Los Angeles, from the health of our ecosystems to the wellbeing of our communities to the businesses that keep our economy running.

For more than 30 years, LA Waterkeeper has confronted Los Angeles’ toughest water challenges head-on, pushing for bold policies, urgent investments, and lasting solutions that protect our water future for generations to come.

We focus on what matters most: capturing and reusing local water, cleaning up pollution, and pushing for investments that support both people and the ecosystems we depend on.

We do this through four core areas of work:

Securing a Climate-Resilient Water Supply

Los Angeles relies heavily on imported water, which is becoming less reliable in the face of drought and climate change. We push for local solutions, like stormwater capture, water recycling, groundwater protection, and conservation, to make our water supply cleaner, safer, and more reliable.

Building Greener, Healthier Communities

Too much pavement sends polluted runoff into waterways and traps heat in neighborhoods. We advocate for trees, parks, and nature-based solutions that capture stormwater, cool communities, and improve public health.

Protecting Waterways from Pollution

Healthy waterways are essential to both people and wildlife. We monitor LA's rivers and ocean for pollution, hold polluters accountable, and advocate for cleaner shorelines and healthier ecosystems - no compromises and no contaminants.

Inspiring Public Awareness and Action

Strong water protections depend on informed and engaged communities. We mobilize volunteers and residents to monitor waterways, advocate for better policies, and help shape LA’s water future.
