PFAS in the LA River: 2022-2025 Monitoring Results
PFAS, often called “forever chemicals,” are a large group of human-made chemicals that don’t break down easily and can build up in people, wildlife, and the environment over time. Exposure to some PFAS has been linked to serious health concerns, making it important to understand where these chemicals are showing up in our waterways.
LA Waterkeeper has been monitoring PFAS in the LA River since 2022 to better understand the extent of contamination and help inform future research, cleanup efforts, and stronger water quality protections.
